Executive Summary:
In 2000, following clinical studies proving the effectiveness of Anxocare in humans for the treatment of behavioural disorders, anxiety and mental irritability, Himalaya conducted a study of the animal preparation of Anxocare on dogs who were identified to have dominance aggression.
The study recruited 15 dogs of various breeds and both genders, aged between one and 5 years. Dominance aggression was diagnosed by a detailed questionnaire with the owners, referring to a chart of 30 situations in which the dog may have displayed aggression. The study then focused on 10 of those situations that were common to all the dogs. The aggression responses were recorded as Growl (score 1), Lip lift (score 2), Snap (score 3) and Bite (score 4).
The aggression responses in the dogs was recorded to have reduced by 11.97% after 5 days of treatment with Anxocare, by 23.95% after 10 days, and 34.5% after 15 days. Two of the dogs recorded a reduced feed intake, but otherwise no adverse effects were recorded during the study period.
The results suggest that aggression may be reduced by Anxocare, which appears to modify the brain neurochemistry probably by altering the serotonin levels.
